Quantis is a leading sustainability and life cycle assessment (LCA) consultancy, specialized in supporting organisations to measure, understand, manage and communicate on the sustainability performance of their products, services and operations. With LCA as its backbone, Quantis purpose is to guide organisations to define, shape and implement intelligent solutions from an environmental sustainability perspective, by delivering robust metrics, resilient strategies, useful tools and credible communications. Quantis has a uniquely broad and detailed set of expertise in LCA, including the development of multiple Life Cycle Impact Assessment methods and models (IMPACT 2002+, USEtox® model, UNEP-SETAC toxicity model, the LCIAILCD European Method, IMPACT World+) with focused applications in innovative technologies. In the past 8 years, Quantis has been involved in 13 FP7 projects and 17 H2020 projects, a number of which are closely related to the SCARABEUS project. The role of Quantis in the above projects ranges from environmental LCA/LCC of innovative technologies or products to research and development in the field of LCA methodology. The present project will enable Quantis to consolidate as a leading consultancy in Europe in sustainability assessment. In addition, the project will provide Quantis with the opportunity to strengthen its already extensive knowledge in the field of innovative materials. Multi-partner projects also help to widen and extend Quantis network of companies and research institutions, with the aim of raising the awareness on the potentialities of LCA in their specific activities. In addition, Quantis gives special attention to scientific research in LCA. By exploring novel technologies and materials such as those investigated in the present project, Quantis can contribute to the development of sector specific best practices in LCA.
MAIN TASKS IN PROJECT
Within this project, Quantis will be assessing the environmental performance of the developed innovative SCARABEUS CSP technology by means of environmental LCA and LCC, compared to current technologies (baseline). The LCA work in this project shall follow the main guidelines of the ILCD Handbook as well as the ISO series of norms 14040-44. In addition, Quantis will perform a toxicity assessment of the investigated materials and fluids, from a life cycle perspective.

Anna Kounina is Sustainability Consultant. She holds a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) and undertook her master thesis project in CIRAIG (Montréal, Canada), on water related risks for companies in a life cycle perspective. Her active participation in the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative on water provided her with a deep knowledge of water use related methodology that she has been applying in several projects at Quantis since 2010. In parallel to her activities at Quantis, Anna did a PhD (2014) on regionalization in LCA across several LCIA categories which brought her to work on several research projects such as the FP7 projects LC-IMPACT, EUROBIOREF, NANOVALID or DEMEAU, as well as H2020 project LEILAC.
