Abengoa is an international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors. Abengoa has extensive experience in engineering, construction, assembly and commissioning of power generation plants with open cycle technologies, combined cycles, cogeneration, wind farms, solar thermal and photovoltaic plants, and biomass plants that together exceed 12,800 MW installed capacity. Abengoa is carrying out turnkey projects in all these areas that encompass the entire value-chain: development, engineering, purchasing, construction, plant commissioning, in addition to offering operation and maintenance. Abengoa has its own solar thermal technology and has become a world leader in the construction of solar thermal plants, with 34% of the installed capacity worldwide. Technological development continues to be Abengoa’s key competitive advantage in the undertaking of high added value projects. The company continues to develop R&D and Innovation projects, which improve both the performance of current products and services and the acquisition of new skills. Till 2018, the accumulated investment in R&D has reached more than 800 M€ and 342 granted patents.
AE’s contribution to the project focuses on the following areas:
• As one of the main Industry player in CSP, AE will support to Performance the techno-economic assessment of the innovative concept (WP5)
• As CSP technology expert, Abengoa will transfer knowledge of main bottleneck in the operation of power blocks due to the transient behaviour of solar resources. These requirements will affect Test Rig and experimental validation (WP6)
• Support in the experimental validation as expert in the scaling up of new technologies (WP6 and WP5).
• Exploitation of results. As industrial partner, several efforts will be devoted to evaluate exploitable results (WP7)

Abengoa has the most modern solar test facility in Europe, the Plataforma Solar de Sanlúcar la Mayor (PSSM) near Seville (Spain) where all the components developed in the project could be tested due there is a DSG test loop plant suitable for the range of temperatures and pressures of the project. The Solucar Platform is the largest solar R&D&I Center in the world and Abengoa is the only company to possess a center of its kind. It features solar and photovoltaic technology power plants already in commercial operation and pilot plants where technologies such as power tower hybrid solar-gas, molten salt solar receiver on tower, second generation parabolic troughs, molten salt storage systems, Stirling dishes, projects combining hydrogen and solar energy, high-concentration PV, etc. are being proven prior to commercialization.
